Über die Jalsa Salana

The Jalsa Salana is the annual three-day general meeting of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Germany. With over 40,000 visitors, it is the largest regular gathering of Muslims in Europe. The history of Jalsa Salana goes back to 1891 when the founder of the reform movement, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani (as), proclaimed the Jalsa Salana for the first time in Qadian (India). At that time, 75 members of the community attended. Since then, Jalsa Salana has firmly established itself in many countries around the world. For example, the last Jalsa Salana in Pakistan, 1983, attracted over 200,000 visitors.

Aim of the Gathering

„The major aim of the gathering is that the sincere members of the Jama’at should be able to derive religious benefits and at the same time they should acquire more knowledge and advance in their God realisation. One advantage is that meeting their friends will broaden their circle of brotherhood and it will strengthen the mutual ties.“

The Jalsa Salana in Germany

The first Jalsa Salana in Germany took place in 1976 on the property of the Fazl-e-Omar Mosque in Hamburg. After the headquarters for Germany had been relocated to Frankfurt, the Jalsa Salana was also held in Frankfurt’s Nuur Mosque.
With the growing number of members, the congregation bought a larger piece of land (“Nasir Bagh”) in Groß-Gerau and from 1985 also held the Jalsa Salana there.  However, this place soon became too small, so that from 1995 the Jalsa Salana took place on the Maimarkt site in Mannheim. The increasing demands on organization and logistics made it necessary, however, that the Maimarkt area had to be abandoned as an event location after a few years. Since 2011, the Jalsa Salana Germany has therefore taken place on the exhibition grounds in Karlsruhe. It is visited annually by around 40,000 members and friends of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Since the corona pandemic, the first Jalsa Salana will take place in 2021 on the Maimarkt site in Mannheim.
